One of the great joys that pianist Orli Shaham has immersed herself in is teaching. Since 2017, she’s been on faculty at The Juilliard School and Pre-College Division where she teaches piano, piano performance, and chamber music. The pride she has for her students and their accomplishments is immense. Here are some highlights of the achievements of Shaham’s students from the past year.
Celebrating the end of the year with a graduate Piano Performance class after a wonderful group of performances at the Juilliard School.
Student Xiaotian Xu at his graduation program, which included works by Ravel (“textured and nuanced and lovely” says Orli) & Liszt (“powerful and passionate and well-paced"). Because he started school in the midst of the pandemic, Xu’s early lessons were over Zoom with a Yamaha Disklavier in separate rooms.
Student Jesse Hubbs makes his orchestral debut with the Little Orchestra Society led by David Alan Miller. Bringing it full circle, LOS was Orli’s first professional gig as a child in 1985, and she performed with David Alan Miller over 30 years ago in Albany.
Chamber students Ayla Lam and Philina Zhu after a performance of movements from Beethoven’s “Spring” Sonata.
Students Xiaotian Xu, Jesse Hubbs, Victoria Fang, Alex Liu, Adam Jackson, Hudson Ragins, and Yunqing Huang perform Beethoven concerti as part of a special all-Studio concert as Juilliard’s Morse Hall
Student Alex Liu with conductor Dorothy Savitch before a performance of Mozart K467 with the Brooklyn Conservatory Community Orchestra
Pre-College Piano Performance students Aaron Wang, Qin Yu, Taige Wang, and college piano student Jack Xiaotian Xu perform at the St. James Church Thanksgiving concert in November 2023. Orli writes “the audience greeted them with enthusiasm and appreciation and well-earned applause. Thankful indeed!”
Student Adam Jackson is the first prize winner of the Dallas International Piano Competition!
